In the midst of the controversy around Ranveer Allahbadia’s remark on India’s Got Latent, an old video of Kapil Sharma has appeared online. The clip is from Kapil’s The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony, which aired in 2023. In less than a day, it received over 3 million views on Instagram.
The video, which was uploaded on Wednesday by the Instagram account @x.memez1, features Kapil making a joke about the younger generation’s obsession with cricket. While students complain about having to get up early to study for tests, Kapil stated in his opening statement for the February 19, 2023 program that they won’t mind doing so for an early cricket match.
“Subah 2 baje hi uth jaate hain, kai toh itne shaukeen hote hain.” Dekhne ke liye cricket. Four baje shuru hona hai cricket ka match. There are those fans who get up at 2 a.m. for a 4 a.m. event because they are so devoted to the sport. Thus, youngsters observe their parents sparring and return to their slumber,” Kapil explains. The audience’s and guest Archana Puran Singh’s startled reactions are also shown in the video.

Kapil also attempted to explain his meaning in the original video, which can be found on SET India’s channel. “Matlab maa baap ladrahe hote haina,” he remarked, referring to the frequent arguments between parents.
Well well well…

In his post, @x.memez1 said, “Why wasn’t this issue raised?” Hundreds of comments were left on the video, with some defending Kapil and others expressing surprise that the joke was overlooked two years prior. One comment read, “And people say family show hai ye.” Another person said, “I really liked Kapil Sharma, but the banda kitna bhi gande jokes and ise koi criticise nahi karega because iske puche pura Bollywood ka haath hai, but agar koi independence/self made banda ya kare toh pura India uske against ho jata hai 🙏🏼 (Kapil Sharma’s show is a family show, while Latent is an adult show, and the show starts with a disclaimer).
Netizens’ Reactions On This Kapil sharma Video
“Ye toh mazak tha bhai hasi toh ani chahiye baki samay ho kare woh vulgarity hai,” commented another person. “Wo kre to comedy, samay kre to vulgarity.”
Others said that Kapil’s joke was more subtle and that just because one person made the joke, doesn’t mean others are free to do it too. “Saying directly & indirectly is both different things that’s also called “limits”,” wrote a person. “
What’s the India’s Got Latent controversy ?
After Allahbadia’s comment on a recent episode of the show did not go well with the crowd, the dispute broke out. “Would you rather watch your parents… or join in once and stop it forever?” he questioned one of the contestants during the show.
In response to the criticism, Ranveer Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, social media star Apoorva Makhija, and the organisers of India’s Got Latent were all the targets of a formal complaint.
