After 29 years of marriage, music legend AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation on November 19, 2024. The couple were married in 1995 and has a son named Ameen and two daughters, Khatija and Raheema. The couple made the decision to split up just before their 30th wedding anniversary in order to be happy. As a worldwide celebrity with admirers worldwide, AR Rahman’s news was unexpected. In a joint statement, Saira Banu’s attorney, Vandana Shah, announced the couple’s separation.
Having worked in both the Hindi and South film industries, AR Rahman is among the wealthiest music composers in the industry. He has won numerous important honours, including an Oscar. The estimated net worth of AR Rahman is between Rs 1,728 crores and Rs 2,000 crores. Half of his wealth will pass into his wife Saira Banu’s name if she requests alimony.
The amount of alimony involved in the couple’s divorce is demonstrated by Saira Banu’s attorney:
Regarding the alimony allegations, Saira Banu’s attorney said that no talks regarding monetary settlements or compensation have yet to occur. She also underlined how friendly the split is. She disclosed,
“Not as yet. It has not come to this stage yet. It would be an amicable divorce.”
The cause of the split:
Citing confidentiality, the attorney refused to provide specifics when questioned about the grounds for the split. She did, however, commend Rahman and Saira for their poise and maturity in managing the matter. “I said,” she said.
“Both of them are extremely genuine, and this decision was not taken lightly. It is not what you would call a sham marriage”
Shah further lauded the couple’s enduring respect for one another, stating,
“Every long marriage goes through ups and downs, and I am extremely happy
that if it has come to an end, it has done so in a dignified manner. Both Rahman
and Saira will continue to support each other and wish each other well.”
Is Mohini Dey, AR Rahman’s bassist, divorcing her spouse related to their breakup?
Their attorney clarified that there is absolutely no relationship when questioned about the connection to Mohini Dey’s divorce.
Mohini, AR Rahman’s bassist, has played with him in more than 40 gigs over the years. A few hours after the news of the music composer’s split became viral online, she unexpectedly also declared her divorce from her husband. After Saira’s attorney clarified the situation, internet users began to speculate that their divorces were related. Her attorney pointed out:
“There is no connection at all. Saira and Mr. Rahman made this decision on their own”
Vandana explained that no third party was engaged in the split between Saira and AR Rahman. She added that they will continue to support one another even though they are splitting up because of their irreversible differences. She went on to say,
“Every long marriage goes through ups and downs, and I am extremely happy that if it has come to an end, it has done so in a dignified manner. Both Rahman and Saira will continue to support each well. Both of them are extremely genuine, and this decision was not taken lightly. It is not what you would call a sham marriage.”
