Bollywood has set a new trend in making biopics on the life of eminent real-life big-time attainers and minting out money crores. Too much money that the actual character didn’t even earn that much money in real life. They make a company out of an inspirational story and the goal is not only to make money but also to misrepresent facts in the process to make it more interesting.

Here are eight such times when Bollywood muddled up vital biopic facts and made us a fool:

1. Neerja Bhanot

During a layover in Karachi, Pakistan, on September 5, 1986—two days before her 23rd birthday—Neerja Bhanot, AC, an Indian head purser, died while rescuing passengers on Pan Am Flight 73 that had been kidnapped by terrorists from a terrorist organization.

A story of the brave Neerja Bhanot, who sacrificed her life on Pan Am flight 73 in 1986 while saving the lives of 359 passengers. A terrorist group hijacked the flight. While the film was based on Neerja and her sacrifice fellow Neerja crew member believed the value of Neerja was untold.

Nupoor Abrol, one of the flight attendants, had said, taking to her Facebook page,

“Yes, truly a very difficult moment. But also a difficult moment for all those flight attendants to accept the movie for what it is unfairly propagating. Neerja was a wonderful person and I think even her soul today would cringe at taking this undeserved adulation. Not fair to the FA’s who have in reality faced their ordeal!”

2. Mohammed Azharuddin Azar

Mohammed Azharuddin Azar

Another biopic on the life story of former India cricketer captain Mohammed Azharuddin Azar has also played with the audience’s emotions. The film portrays the Indian captain as the victim of an incident that finally took place in his life.

The film seeks to impress the audience that all the allegations that were on the Indian captain were evident from the court itself. But the actual and the archived cutting of newspapers and papers are enough to show that the film has fucked up on important facts.

3. M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story

The movie helps us to conclude that the rise of M. S. Dhoni as a cricketer, batsman, and even a captain was only because of his relationship with Priyanka Jha. The movie shows that he met him in a fight while a one-day series with Pakistan. After he met him he scored a century and then he fixed his place in the Indian team. But the reports and the photo clippings show that M. S. Dhoni was dating Priyanka since 2002 while India A squad’s Zimbabwe and Kenya.

4. Airlift

It can be said that the movie has zero resemblance to what happened. Kuwait fell on August 3, 1990. Inder Kumar Gujral our external affairs minister was in Baghdad within a time of less than a week. He had a talk with the stranded Indians in Iran and took them back in his IAF Il-76 and then organized the biggest airlift in the history of mankind. Our embassy in Baghdad found a bus contractor to move our people to Amman and Jordan had never closed its borders with Iraq. The first airlift took place on August 13, on the tenth day after the invasion and continued for 59 days until the last Indian wanting to return was back. About 10,000 stayed in Kuwait, feeling safe with the Iraqis who were friendly to India and never consciously hurt an Indian.

5. Uri: The Surgical Strike

The guard introduced by the DRDO intern with the 12 km range specification, 4-hour battery, 16 MP camera, 7.2X optical zoom, and night vision Infrared camera could also hover. It is just a trick in the film, as the Uri Surgical Strike took place in 2016 and the Bird was released in 2017 by a Canadian-based company called Arial analytics. The bird’s name is ROBIRD.

The bird’s actual aim is to fend off the birds in the fields that kill the crops and track the weather. The film shows it can fly for up to 4 hours but in fact, it can fly for 10-15 minutes. The only sensor that comes with the drone is the audio sensor that scares off the birds in the fields or at the airport but is seen in the movie with several features like the infrared camera. Nonetheless, the evidence seen in the film can not be disputed as the Indian Army did not reveal the details due to security purposes.

6. Mary Kom

Mary Kom herself in an interview said that the movie has been dramatized to a great extent. In the movie, it is shown that Mary Kom used to do street boxing for money but in reality, she had fought once and she had never fought for money. In the movie, it is shown that her father was vehemently opposed to boxing but it reality her father supported her to an extent. Mary Kom was never in the boxing ring when her son was being operated but according to the movie, she was playing in the finals of the world championship and won the championship when her son was back in life. This scene is entirely fictional to earn TRP for the movie.

7. Dangal

In the film, it is seen that their wrestling journey started after the incident where Geeta and Babita hit the boys, who were teasing them. But, in fact, Karnam Malleswari, the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in weightlifting in 2000, inspired Mahavir Singh Phogat too. In the Dangal movie, Geeta’s coach PR Sodhi has been described as a derogatory character. In fact, however, the coach appreciated Mahavir Singh’s efforts toward his daughters.

He also invited him to come and visit his daughters in the village. The final match in the movie includes a cliffhanger, where Geeta scores a 5-pointer to win the match. In fact, however, the match was won in the first and second rounds by 1–0 and 7–0 respectively. It is also seen in the film that the coach locked Mahavir Singh but in fact, he was sitting in the stands and watching Geeta win gold.

8. The Dirty Picture

The South Indian actress committed according to reality! (!de hanging herself to the ceiling. Contrary to this, the film revealed that she overdosed on sleeping pills and died. After the release of the film, this portrait of the death of Silk Smitha became the city’s chat.
