Bride Cancels Her Wedding After Guests Refused To Pay $1200 To Attend

Getting married is not cheap, like most things in 2024, but one couple went over and beyond by requesting their guests to cover the cost of attending their wedding.

And we’re not just talking about the cost of a train or a quick plane ticket; we’re talking about roughly US$1,200, or about CA$1,500 per person. Unfortunately for the couple, only eight of their guests—including those who paid—received an RSVP.

It’s hardly unexpected that the majority of their guests didn’t have $1,200 lying around to spend on attending someone else’s wedding, considering the rising cost of living.

The criticism infuriated the bride, and ultimately, the pair ended up calling off the wedding and divorcing because of the embarrassing situation. I hate to say it, but the couple’s breakup seems to support the individuals who refused to pay. I’m just saying.

The bride, Susan, posted on social media, saying, “Dear friends, I am announcing the cancellation of the wedding with great sadness.” I apologise for the short notice cancellation—just four days.

The bride was unrepentant about expecting money from friends and family, even though she received a less than enthusiastic answer.

“I specifically, I mean specifically asked for cash gifts,” the woman stated. Without adequate funds, how could we have the wedding of our dreams?

“We’d sacrificed so much and only asked each guest for around $1,500 [Canadian].”

She went on, “My maid of honour offered her planning services and $5,000 [Canadian].” With tears in our eyes, we accepted. The family of my ex-partner promised to pay $3,000. “So it wasn’t f***ing out of the usual that we asked for $1,500 for each additional person. Like, it’s obvious now. You weren’t invited to our private wedding if you couldn’t contribute. This is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.

Put another way, because the happy couple’s close friends and family gave them money so kindly, everyone else has to also. However, why the lavish wedding? Naturally, because a psychic claimed as such.

The bride wrote: “We wanted an enormous blow-out wedding because our love was like something out of a dream. We thought there was no reason not to choose the most expensive choice when a local psychic advised us to do so.
