When a care worker who had a weight that put her in the obese category met the man who would eventually become her husband, she admitted that she had been “giving up” on love. The 24-year-old woman said that all of her ex-boyfriends had been preoccupied with her weight.

Yet she has managed to keep her 257-pound physique while finding love.

Montgomery first connected with her spouse on Facebook. When Matt Montgomery and the Canadian woman from Ontario clicked, they began dating. They were married in 2021, and have recently expanded their family.

“We hit it off right away from the moment we met,” Brittany remarked of their initial encounter.

“At first, I was a little hesitant. In relationships, I’ve had guys threaten to break up with me if I don’t start dieting or making an effort to lose weight. It did have an impact on my self-confidence, and I did start exercising and trying to lose weight at one time.

But then I understood that if I did that, I would no longer value myself and would be modifying myself to fit someone else’s idea of beauty.

“I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to find someone who loved me for who I am, but after meeting Matt, I couldn’t be happier,” she added.

With Brittany, according to Matt, who is 140 lbs., things went well because of her incredible body-positive outlook. “I’ve been in relationships with skinny girls in the past, and they haven’t been happy in themselves at all,” he admitted.

“They weren’t upbeat or they always felt like they wanted to improve themselves, and it depressed me too. When I first met Britt, I adored how comfortable she felt in her skin. She doesn’t want to change anything, and I would never expect her to.

“It helps that I also enjoy eating. I’m not concerned about her calorie counting or diet. I just want her to be content and eat whatever she wants.

Even though they were overflowing with joy and love, people continued to criticise their union. At the beginning of last year, they got engaged. As for how people perceived them, Matt said, “I do notice people staring when we walk down the street, but most of the comments we have had have been online.”

“People on Instagram make comments about how I’m not strong or masculine enough for her,”

I wish mixed weight relationships were more prevalent and the norm, Brittany continued. We’ve never had any problems, despite the common idea that a large person and a thin person can’t have healthy relationships or do things like start families.

We are the happiest we have ever been and feel so fortunate to have found each other.
