Emma Thompson is being frank about her opinions on love, and they might not be what we anticipate. The 63-year-old recently shared her views on relationships, which are informed by her personal experience and complicated love life. We respect Thompson for being sincere, and we’re interested to know if you concur.

She has a surprising view on love.

The Love Actually actress doesn’t seem to be a huge fan of “romantic love,” despite having starred in so many critically acclaimed romantic comedies.

It’s tremendously conceptually relaxing, useful, and encouraging to recall that romantic love is a myth, she said in a recent interview. It’s “really extremely risky,” she continued.
We can no longer rationally think about love, says Thompson.

She adds that “long-term relationships are tremendously challenging and convoluted,” but argues that it is essential to think properly about love.

If anyone thinks that happy ever after has a place in our life, forget it, she added, adding that actual relationships are far from being fairytale-like tales.

Emma Thompson first marriage had a tragic end.

Thompson herself has been in a few long-term relationships. She has been married to actor and producer Greg Wise for 20 years, and the couple has two children.

She spent six years with her first husband, actor Kenneth Branagh. After she learned he was having an affair with his co-star, actress Helena Bonham Carter, they were divorced in 1995.

When discussing the relationship, Thompson recalled being “utterly oblivious” to what was going on and acknowledged feeling “unlovable” and “humiliated” after learning the reality.

I was completely, completely unaware that he had relationships with other women on set, Thompson admitted.

Following their divorce, Branagh dated Bonham Carter, who is now 56, for five years.

Later, when the two ladies collaborated on the Harry Potter books, Thompson said she had long since “forgiven” the actress for the relationship.

She found happiness again.

The 63-year-old actress attributes her current partner, Wise, with assisting her through that trying time in her life by providing her with support. He was the one who “picked up the pieces and put them back together,” according to what she said.

Thompson admitted, “I’ve learned more from my second marriage just by being married.” “The first 20 years are the hardest, as my mother always says.”

Emma Thompson’s second husband was the key to her happy ending in a romantic relationship.
