The man who tried to kill the former president of the United States on Saturday, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, has been named.

At an outdoor rally in Butler, just outside of Pittsburgh, Crooks, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, squeezed off bullets, one of which brushed Trump in the ear. According to sources, Crooks was placed more than 130 yards from the stage at the Butler Farm Show grounds, on the roof of a manufacturing facility.

A few moments before the alleged gunman started shooting at a Donald Trump event, there are shouts from the audience that “He’s got a gun.”

A 20-year-old male who was in a sniper position when the rounds were fired at the rally has been identified as the gunman thought to be responsible for the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump.

According to sources close to the Trump campaign, the accused gunman—who has since been killed—was positioned far away from the crowd in a sniper position.

He was inches away from getting his face shot open, a senior law enforcement official informed an outlet. The gunman was seen by one witness “bear-crawling” on the roof. Outside the event site, the alleged shooter fired an AR-style rifle from an elevated position.

What is known about the occurrence is as follows. On July 13, at around 6:15 p.m., during former President Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, a person who appeared to be a gunman fired several rounds towards the stage from an elevated spot outside the rally site.
