A customer on an IndiGo flight from Chandigarh to Delhi recently ran into a suitcase weight problem at the airport check-in desk. Concerns regarding the dependability of the weighing apparatus were raised when the scales at two different counters gave contradictory readings for the same bag.
Daksh Sethi, the traveler, reported that the bag felt lighter than the scale’s reading. An IndiGo employee suggested that he weigh his bag on a separate belt after he voiced his worries. But the second scale also showed a different weight, which made him even more sceptical about the scales’ veracity.
The passenger captured the event on camera and shared it on social media, where it swiftly gained widespread popularity. “Chandigarh Airport, January 30, 25.” around 16:00 @indigo.6e Counter. The same bag. Two counters. Two distinct weights. 2.3 kg difference,” Daksh wrote as the Instagram video’s caption.
He went on to say, “Is it easy to influence these machines? I’m hoping this is a technical issue and an uncommon occurrence. The woman at the counter asked me to check my bag on the other belt because I typically thought it wasn’t as heavy as it appeared. And I was shocked to see a different number! These minor issues undermine our faith in the system. I hope this is given careful consideration.
Travellers are now doubting the accuracy of airport weighing devices and their possible effects on baggage handling and fees as a result of this occurrence. A member wrote, “This has happened with me and my husband almost 3 times in the last 5 years.”
“Airports have been scamming us clearly!” commented another person. According to a third user, “New sacm unlocked.”
“I paid more for two kilogrammes. A fourth user said, “And I was sooooooo intimidated.” A user also pointed out that the weighing scale requires calibration. “This should be taken care by BHS supplier as well as airport operators,” he added.
Another person thanked Daksh for not displaying any airline’s name. He was also commended by the user for managing the matter with the highest dignity. “You did not blame any airline, and you did not capture anyone’s face,” the user stated. You complained to the airport after noticing a problem with the equipment. You did a great job managing things. Education is crucial because of this. I respect you.
In the meantime, IndiGo addressed the popular video in the comment area, stating, “
Hi, we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We’d like to inform you that the weighing machines are calibrated and certified by the airport operator at regular intervals. Be assured, we have shared your feedback with the relevant team. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you onboard again soon. Team IndiGo”
