During Dhanteras, a day traditionally celebrated for purchasing gold and silver, new-age delivery services like Blinkit and Zepto introduced an innovative “10-minute doorstep gold delivery” option to make the shopping experience faster and easier for customers. Mohit Jain, a resident of Delhi, decided to use Blinkit’s express delivery for gold, hoping to take advantage of this quick, festive service. However, his experience was disappointing when he received only half the gold he had ordered.
Dhanteras is widely considered an auspicious day to buy precious metals in India, so these platforms launched such services, hoping to cater to busy customers who might not find the time to visit stores. While the idea was well-intentioned, some logistics issues may have affected Blinkit’s execution of the service, leaving customers like Mohit with a frustrating experience instead of a convenient one.
He took to X and shared,
“I ordered 1 gm gold coin from blinkit, along with the 1gm silver coin. It was all prepaid.”
His younger brother received the delivery since he was not home when the delivery man arrived with the order. He provided the OTP required to confirm the order.
After about twenty minutes, he arrived home feeling completely let down. Why? because the precise things he had requested had not arrived. He said,
“I got 0.5gm Malabar gold coin (rose design). What I ordered was 1 gm Mata lakshmi gold coin.”
The fact that the return window had closed in those twenty minutes just made him more irate.
The fact that Blinkit’s return window closed in the short 20 minutes he was gone only made Mohit Jain more irate. As a result, there was no way to start a return or get in touch with customer service. Feeling powerless, he tried phoning the delivery agent to fix the problem. Jain expressed his disappointment by saying,
” I literally cried while talking to him.”
The delivery agent’s admission that there was nothing he could do demoralised Jain even further.
“Uske paas delivery karne se pehle woh coin ke pictures hai par usne kaha woh kuch nhi kar skta even after knowing he delivered me wrong item. (He has pictures of the coin taken before delivery, but he said there’s nothing he can do, even after knowing he delivered the wrong item to me.)”
After such a horrible experience he concluded his post by saying,
“It was the first and last time of me ordering something so expensive from Blinkit.”
