A political science student named Melisa stated that she wants to inspire other ladies and young girls to showcase their inherent beauty. On Monday, August 22, Melisa made a bold move that won over the judges, advancing her to the final round of the competition. On the last day of the competition, she will forego cosmetics once more as she competes for the prestigious Miss England crown.
Melisa also triumphed in the 2019 edition of the “Bare Face” round the competition. Angie Beasley, the event’s organiser, stated the same thing while discussing it: “It encourages women to show us who they really are without having to hide behind cosmetics and filters on social media.”
The first Miss England competitor to go barefaced in 94 years was a 20-year-old student from the UK.
The London-based student Melisa Raouf claimed she made the decision to go makeup-free in an effort to promote natural beauty and push back against the ideals of perfect beauty promoted on social media.
Raouf claimed that comments from other young ladies “saying me how I’ve made them feel more secure in themselves” swamped her direct message box.
She told The Independent,
“I feel that many ladies of different ages wear cosmetics because they feel like they have to,” thus it means a lot to her.
