Although videos depicting the incident circulated widely, the police asserted that it was not a communal issue but rather a clash between two groups. According to law enforcement, one person suffered severe injuries during the attack in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road, and while his condition is no longer critical, several others sustained minor injuries. Charges, including attempted murder, promoting enmity based on religion, and rioting, have been filed against multiple individuals.

Madhukar Pandey, Commissioner of Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar police, reported the immediate arrest of five individuals, with an additional four arrested on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 11 pm when a group with saffron flags and chanting “Jai Shri Ram” slogans was confronted by locals, leading to an argument and the gathering of crowds on both sides.

Purported videos showed unidentified individuals vandalizing vehicles, throwing stones at windshields, and assaulting people inside. Despite the presence of a few policemen, they were unable to control the situation.

To prevent further escalation, additional forces were deployed, and numerous individuals were detained and subsequently arrested. The police in the Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar area urged the public not to believe in rumours or spread hate messages.

Amid these events, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane posted a message on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday morning, stating, “What happened in Mira Road yesterday… remember one thing… Will kill every person involved !!! Jai Shri Ram.”
