You’ve probably heard of (if not already binge-watched) the South Korean dystopian drama Squid Game unless you’ve been living under a rock. It rapidly became one of Netflix’s most popular programmes, reaching number one in 90 countries. However, with more people watching, the show’s shortcomings and unexpected surprises are being scrutinised more closely.

We can’t get enough of this series, so we explored the internet for Squid Game finds posted by keen viewers. For those who haven’t watched it yet, be aware that this article includes spoilers.

The players’ numbers were messed up.

At the start of the game, there were 456 players, and everyone was issued a number based on the sequence in which they arrived.

The digits of the big characters remained consistent throughout the show, but it appears that the makers paid less care to the minor characters.

As one video pointed out, Player 061 was once a woman. However, the photo that was removed showed a male contestant with the same number. This gaffe was likewise made by other characters in different episodes.

One of the participants was over the age of 100.

During the fifth round, where players had to guess which glass boards to hop on to safely cross the opposite side, participant 017 had a little advantage.

He was able to discern which panels were tempered and which would break. So Front Man went through his files and discovered that he worked in a glass plant.

However, one Reddit user noticed a strange discrepancy in his birth year. He was said to have been born in the year 1897, making him 124 years old.

However, it appears that Netflix has corrected this typographical error, as a subsequent viewing of this episode revealed the corrected year, which is 1987.

The shape of the umbrella on the wall altered between scenes.

The second game required participants to choose one of four shapes: circle, triangle, star, or umbrella.

They’d have to extract their desired shape from a stamped dalgona or sugar tablet, it turns out.

However, nitpickers noticed that the dome shape of the umbrella figure on the wall unexpectedly shifted from a straight line to pointed curves. This definitely makes the game more difficult for the inexperienced players.

In one of the moments, Seong Gi-hun pretended to eat.

For those who missed it, here’s a hilarious hiccup. Gi-hun complained about how cold his dinner was in the third episode. Perhaps it was his irritation that made him want to consume air rather than food.

If you go back and watch this sequence again, you’ll notice that he was just pretending to eat by putting an empty spoon in his mouth.

The English translations were incorrect.

One Twitter user expressed her thoughts on the genuine substance of the Korean dialogues, as well as how the English subtitles slightly changed them.

“I’m not a genius, but I still got things work out,” Han Mi-nyeo (Player 212) says in a scenario where she tries to persuade teammates to choose her for their squad.

“I am quite smart, I simply never got a chance to study,” Mi-nyeo added, according to the user. This was a crucial component of the screenplay, she says, because the “intelligent but poor” character is a common theme in Korean media.

Gi-cellphone hun’s has a difficulty with continuity.

Gi-hun was seen in a railway station near the end of the series, talking on his Samsung S7 with his daughter.

However, a cutaway revealed that he was holding a Samsung S3 while waiting for his aircraft inside the airport. It appears that his phone was abruptly downgraded throughout his commute.

Hwang Jun-cellphone, ho’s for some reason, never ran out of power.

The police officer’s cellphone became one of the show’s highlights. Due to what people saw as an ideal, but unachievable, battery lifespan, it also spawned memes and hilarious comments.

Jun-ho used the device for about a week, taking images, films, and taking notes. He was never observed charging the device, but it worked flawlessly until the very last moment.

We don’t know if Jun-ho survived his brother’s shooting, but his cellphone is quite likely to have survived.

On the Squid Game business card, they used an actual number.

Interested players were urged to contact a phone number to enter the tournament in the series.

In actual life, the digits belong to a South Korean woman who received a barrage of texts and hoax calls after the show went viral.

Netflix is apparently planning to fix the problem by re-editing the scenes in which the number was displayed.

Kang Sae-byeok spoke with a North Korean lilt.

Non-Korean audiences are unlikely to notice this noteworthy aspect of the actress’ performance. However, one Reddit user pointed out that in some situations, Sae-byeok (the defector) had a North Korean accent.

Sae-byeok adopted to South Korean speech and mannerisms when she was around the players, according to the user, to prevent discrimination. And it was only when she spoke to her brother and the broker that her accent became apparent.

The games were plastered all over their dormitory walls.

The clues hidden in plain sight are probably the greatest and most important Easter eggs in the series. The next difficulty was impossible to predict, but it was right in front of their eyes the entire time.

All of the games were represented on the dormitory walls, from “Red Light, Green Light” through the final match of Squid Game.

They were hidden behind the beds at the start of the competition, but as participants were (literally) eliminated, they were gradually uncovered.
