Padma Lakshmi: In a gorgeous white one-piece, Martha Stewart made history earlier this month by becoming the oldest model in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The 81-year-old received widespread acclaim for the accomplishment, and now Padma Lakshmi says she hopes to dethrone Martha in 30 years.

This year’s swimsuit issue also featured 52-year-old Lakshmi, who displayed her curves in beachy outfits like a bikini made of shells. Then, though, she is inspired by Martha’s accomplishment and sets out to break it.

When her publicist called with the invitation to appear in this year’s swimsuit issue, the Bravo actress apparently felt it was a joke. I was like, “No, you’re s-tting me,” she told Page Six. I genuinely thought, “That’s not true; it’s so surreal.” When I was in my 20s and 30s and a model, I imagined it might happen for me one day, but it never did. I, therefore, assumed that the ship had sailed. So, at my age, it almost seems sweeter.

Regarding the chance to surpass Martha’s record, the Top Chef Judge remarked, “I hope. Listen, if I’m still performing covers like she is at the age of 80 or beyond. God, give her more strength. And why should this be any different when I’ve always admired her? I don’t think about age too much, but I thought that this is kind of historic,” Lakshmi said in reference to the fact that she believed she would be the oldest person to be on the cover of this year’s Sports Illustrated issue.

Age is not a deciding factor in terms of success or friendship; rather, what people do, and how they think and behave is what matters, not their age, said Lakshmi.

The novelist, who was included in TIME’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world, has had a busy month. The chef stated, “I feel surreal,” as the second season of her food and travel programme, “Taste the Nation,” aired. “I haven’t had time to think about it because I’ve been so exhausted. I’m grateful that people enjoy the show, though, and I’m honoured to be named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people. And Sports Illustrated is entertaining, right?

Lakshmi recently shared a clip from her cooking show in which she was seen breaking down in tears over the execution of a pig. She admitted, “I didn’t cry, but I did feel very shaken up,” about the situation. “I’m not sure. That is something new for me. It was difficult because I was a vegetarian growing up.
