Well, there are not many who are aware of his first marriage. In 1995, he tied the knot with Ramlath. The latter was a classical dancer, and both stars are thought to have bonded over dance and finally fell in love. The lady was a Muslim and so, in order to take marriage vows with Prabhu, she embraced Hinduism and changed her name to Latha. They had three children, but in 2008, the eldest son passed away because of cancer.

Rumors of dating are not new to the film industry. Thus, when Prabhu Deva was related to Nayanthara, whom he directed in the Tamil film Villu, it didn’t come as a huge shock. Both the stars, however, never acknowledged being in love. The dancer himself admitted in September 2010 that he considered Nayanthara very special and would love to marry her. It was said they were dating for almost two years. The news inevitably reached the wife of Prabhu Deva, Latha.

When he publicly professed his love for Nayanthara, he was married to Latha. Speculation was rife that he asked his wife for divorce after acknowledging his feelings for the actress. This left Latha angry, who filed a court petition accusing her husband of not providing the family with financial assistance due to his extra-marital affair.

As she filed another petition at a Chennai court seeking to bar Prabhu from tying the knot with Nayanthara and even threatened hunger strikes, things became murkier. Many women’s groups came to her assistance and burned the effigies of Nayanthara. Prabhu and Latha eventually terminated their 16-year-long marriage on July 2, 2010. The custody of the sons was granted to Latha, and Prabhu got visiting rights.

Prabhu and Nayanthara started living together but didn’t have a long-lasting relationship

He entered into a live-in relationship with the actress after Prabhu’s divorce. By that time, the latter had left the movies and was relying on him for her lavish expenses. They both lived in Bombay. She was not happy with Prabhu visiting his children, however. In order to stop fights, some claim that the latter used to lie to her. Things were somewhat different, according to the actress. Rumors had it that, at the last moment, Prabhu vowed to marry Nayanthara but still backed off. This made her furious and both of the stars announced their break-up in 2012.

She once admitted to a leading daily that the most difficult stage is a break-up, but she needs to move on and live her life. India’s Times quoted her as saying,

“That’s too personal to get into’a break-up for anyone is the most difficult phase in their life. When you have to go away from someone you love or vice-versa, whatever the reason, it really shatters your life. But how you deal with it is important. I can’t get into how I dealt with it but I have to if I want to move on and live my life.”

Marriage is just like joining a temple, they claim. Before giving life-long engagement to someone, people should have a pure heart and purpose. Unfortunately, only those can live up to their partner’s wishes, and with Prabhu, something similar happened. Prabhu is, so far, single. No less than a roller coaster trip was his love life. We hope, however, that he would soon discover the love of his life and experience the magic that he always speaks about in his films.
