The first anniversary of Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault occurs on February 14 and the second anniversary is on April 25. The reason for this remained a mystery for more than a decade before the well-known actress finally disclosed that their first official ceremony in Paris was a little out of the ordinary.
In 2007, Hayek and Pinault became engaged, and they later wed in 2009. So what caused the delay, exactly?
The actress admitted, “I truly didn’t believe in marriage,” and went on to explain that she was quite terrified of being married and couldn’t go through with it. I had no desire to wed him. He tried repeatedly, and each time I said yes, I abruptly cancelled. He had to stay until we finished because he didn’t leave when I didn’t arrive. I was also afraid.
The families of Pinault and Hayek conspired together to set up a courtroom and a modest celebration following. The well-known actress had no input.
I was hauled there by them. I felt anxious. Then there was a brunch at his parents’ house thereafter,” added Hayek. “The lunch had already been prepared by my mother-in-law, who is the most elegant lady when it comes to entertaining. I was powerless.
Hayek was finally able to overcome her worries after facing them head-on and getting married to the guy she loved. She even agreed to a larger celebration.
“I had agreed to the marriage, but I just wouldn’t show up or perform on the wedding day. Then I said, “Well, it’s okay,” thereafter. I haven’t changed in any way. And then I added, “Well, this is kind of thrilling,” a little while later. And he said, ‘Can we have a party now?'” the actress revealed.
On Valentine’s Day in Paris, Hayek and Pinault exchanged vows in front of witnesses. Later, a little more than two months later, they held a much larger wedding ceremony in Venice, which was attended by a large number of famous people, including Penélope Cruz, Woody Harrelson, Charlize Theron, and many others.
