Following Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s divorce from Naga Chaitanya in 2021, she was subject to public criticism. She recently talked candidly in an interview about the stigma associated with being a divorced woman and the painful labels that accompany it. She talked about the offensive remarks she heard and how, in the end, she decided to disregard them and go on.
After Samantha deleted the last name Akkineni from her social media accounts, there were rumours that she and Naga Chaitanya were divorcing. In October 2021, the famous couple made their breakup public. Just before their fourth anniversary, fans were taken aback by the news. The next year, the divorce was officially confirmed.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently talked about her struggles following her divorce:
Samantha was questioned about the concept behind reusing her wedding gown and making it into a dress in an interview with Galatta India. When discussing the divorce, the actor initially stated,
“When a woman goes through a divorce, there’s a lot of shame and stigma attached to it, I received comments like ‘second-hand’ and ‘wasted life’. You’re pushed into a corner where you’re supposed to feel like you’re a failure. You’re supposed to feel guilt and shame that you were once married and now you’re not and I do believe it can be really, really hard for families and girls who have gone through that.”
After that, Samantha talked about why she turned her white wedding dress into a beautiful black dress for a special occasion.
She clarified,
“The reason why I did that was because I wanted to, and initially, that hurt. It really hurt and then I decided to flip it and that I’ll own it. Yeah, I am separated and I am divorced. Things haven’t been a fairy tale but that does not mean that I sit in a corner cry about it and never ever have the courage to live again.”
Samantha further stated,
“It wasn’t any kind of revenge or anything. It really wasn’t a ginormous f*ck. Although it looked like it but it wasn’t. It was like, ‘Yes, this has happened and I know it and I’m not trying to hide from it. This is it, but it doesn’t mean that my life ends there.’ It begins where it ends. I’m very very happy right now. I have grown so much and I’m doing incredible work and I’m with incredible people. I’m looking forward to the next phase of my life absolutely”
Samantha first encountered Naga Chaitanya, the son of superstar Nagarjuna, in 2010 while working on the Ye Maaya Chesave sets. Following several years of courtship, they were married in Goa on October 6, 2017, in accordance with traditional Hindu rites, and on October 7, 2017, in accordance with Christian customs.
Naga Chaitanya became engaged to actress Sobhita Dhulipala in August following his divorce from Samantha. On December 4, they will tie the knot at Annapurna Studios. Speaking about his plans for marriage, Chaitanya stated in an interview with The Times of India that he is “looking forward” to beginning a new journey with Sobhita. After two years of dating, Chaitanya and Sobhita became engaged in August of this year.
