The best thing an actor can do is to vanish into the part he/she plays and make us forget that we see a performance first. But this also means some of the best performers aren’t readily identifiable. Many of today’s best working actors seem forgotten forever. Some actors have consistently performed with critical acclaim throughout their careers, but have earned little recognition for awards or still seem to be shunned into small supporting roles throughout major blockbusters that do not do justice to their talent.
Most underrated actors in Bollywood who deserve a big break
1. Vijay Raaz
He’s an actor best known for his comedic timing which can be pulled off so easily only by legends. Still, this amazing actor did not get a lot of chances to prove his skills in Bollywood. Despite this fact, Raghu Romeo displayed his superb performance in the film.
2. Kay Kay Menon
It’s almost impossible to find an actor equipped with different emotions along with versatile acting skills and a good look. But, one could find all these components in K.K. Menon is a phenomenal actor and has successfully managed to bring the best out of him; nailing the roles he had been offered. It won’t be wrong to say that Menon is among those few actors who can breathe life into dead roles. With films like Gulaal, Black Friday, and Haider the actor has risen above the contemporary lot and emerged as a game-changer in Hindi cinema.
3. Sanjay Mishra
Name out any popular comic film, you’ll certainly find that man in some movie scene. Sanjay has been lauding his appearances both on small screens and on big screens. He began with Satya and Dil Se in the popular TV show ‘Office Office’ which gave him the role of “Shukla.” He appeared in several multi-starer major banner movies in small roles. He is one of the few actors in Bollywood who can handle comedy with equal ease, as well as drama.
4. Vinay Pathak
The actor leads well in clever comedic timings in his comedic roles. He started his career with a small role in Deepa Mehta’s Fire and then continued playing small roles in movies like Badlapur, Rab Ne Banna Di Jodi, but he’s best known for his amazing performance in Khosla ka Ghosla and Bheja Fry. Among the other qualities he possesses are talent, humor, and intellect.
5. Ranvir Shorey
It’s just bad this guy is on the list, too. While he is one of the most talented actors with impeccable acting skills who can easily pull off any part, he has not yet made for himself the desired and worthy niche. That talented actor deserves more acclaim and recognition.
6. Tisca Chopra
She started her acting career with television and while she was alternating between television and theatre, Tisca Chopra became popular with her portrayal of Ishaan’s mother in Taare Zameen Par. Her filmography boasts some credible movies and has worked with well-known filmmakers. She has performed in more than 45 feature films in different languages and has left a mark on every role. She also endorses many brands but Hindi Cinema has still not been able to exploit her capabilities well when it comes to films.
7. Jim Sarbh
Best known as an antagonist for his role in Neerja. This actor is considered to be one of the most skilled and accomplished performers. Still, he is typecasted by Bollywood in the same grey roles which limit his reach and talent.
8. Gajraj Rao
He started his acting journey by playing a minor role in Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Princess, and since then he has featured in bit roles in movies and has been seen in supporting characters in Talvar and Blackmail. But it was only last year that the tables turned for the actor when he played Mr Kaushik, the middle-class family patriarch, in Badhaai Ho. Rao had said in an interview that it can only be destiny that such an “unforeseen” role brought him unprecedented attention so late in his career.
