She trusted the doctor who was described as “one of the best.” She had previously received hyaluronic acid injections without experiencing such severe pain, so the procedure’s extreme agony appeared unexpected to her. When the agony did not go away, the woman forced her through seven more sessions to “dilute” the injection after assuring her that it was normal. Nothing was effective.

It was never hyaluronic acid, as a maxillofacial surgeon who was already residing in the United States disclosed years later. Industrial oil and silicone had been put into her.

She had two unsuccessful surgeries, and because the drug was prohibited in Spain, they refused to treat her. It had already reached her chin and nose by that point. She didn’t find a surgeon who would remove the biopolymers until 2026. It was a seven-hour treatment that required months of therapy to restore her facial mobility.

Adriana Fuentes, the woman who pretended to be a doctor, continues to practise without a medical degree as if nothing had happened as she rebuilds her life.
