The Salman Khan Fallout
A contentious news conference in which Vivek Oberoi accused Salman Khan of abuse and threats during his relationship with Aishwarya Rai was the catalyst for the public spat between the two men. Salman never accepted Vivek’s 2009 public apologies, despite the fact that he later acknowledged the incident was impulsive. Vivek’s career suffered greatly as a result of this rivalry, and Bollywood completely distanced itself from him.
Bollywood to Business Transition
Instead of moping about his problems, Vivek turned his attention from cinema to business. He came to the realisation that he could not let the influential lobbyists in the industry to control his future. Vivek explained in an interview with Indian Express how he made the decision to become financially independent outside of the entertainment industry in 2009. He said:
It was only around the 2009 mark when I decided I didn’t want to be completely dependent on this but build my economic independence. I didn’t want to be in a situation where a lobby could decide your future. Somebody could bully you into doing something because they controlled things.”
For Vivek, business had always been a fallback option. He channelled his passion and energy into business endeavours, which helped him become independent and give others options for work. Regarding his choice, he stated:
“Business was always a Plan B, and I decided cinema will be my passion. My livelihood should be my business, which helped me earn my independence and get out of that whole trap of lobbies, or having to sell your soul or suck up to somebody that is no great way to live at least for me. Some people make a living out of it but for me, that’s not the case.”
Overcoming Obstacles
Vivek achieved success by concentrating on his business objectives in spite of the psychological toll of his split with Aishwarya Rai and career disappointments. His business endeavours have expanded greatly, allowing him to establish a vast empire and find fulfilment outside of Bollywood.
