A woman travelling on a train from Maharashtra to Bihar allegedly posed as a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and attempted to issue a ticket using a blank sheet of paper during a late-night check. The incident, which took place around 2 am, has raised serious concerns about railway security.

What Happened

According to an X user named Nitu, who shared photographs and details of the encounter, the woman approached passengers, woke them up and began checking their tickets while introducing herself as a TTE.

During the inspection, she reportedly found one passenger travelling without a ticket and another who seemed reluctant to show his. She told the second passenger that a fresh ticket would need to be issued. She then asked for his name and pulled out a blank sheet of paper from her bag to write on it.

The unusual action immediately raised suspicions among passengers. The woman was not wearing a TTE uniform and had not produced any official railway identity document.

How She Was Caught

One passenger asked her to show her identity card to confirm she was authorised to conduct ticket checks. She allegedly refused, saying she would show her ID only to a railway official. As the questioning continued, she became uncomfortable and tried to leave.

When the passenger attempted to stop her, she accused him of harassing her. She later managed to disappear into the crowd while wearing a mask.

Nitu raised a key concern in her post:
“Now the biggest question is, if this woman was indeed a fake TT collecting money from passengers, then how was this not detected on the train?”

Public Reaction

The post quickly went viral, with many users expressing alarm over the ease with which someone could impersonate a railway official.

Comments included:

  • “Compromising passengers’ safety on the railways should not be tolerated. Such incidents require an impartial investigation and strict action.”
  • “Fake TTEs on trains were the only thing missing, and now we have that too.”
  • “Now passengers will have to be even more alert. At 2 am, when people are asleep, they might suddenly assume that the person checking their tickets is actually a TTE.”

Railways’ Response

Railway authorities took note of the viral post. The official RailwaySeva handle responded that the matter was being looked into, stating:

“Related officials are being informed.”
