Zomato Responds After Man Compares A Mumbai Eatery’s Offline Bill With The Online One

With convenience and variety at our fingertips, meal delivery services have revolutionised the way we eat. With their alluring promises of quick and easy access to our favourite meals, companies such as DoorDash, Zomato, and Uber Eats have established themselves as household names.

This ease does come with a price, though. One significant result of these services’ increasing popularity is the rise in food prices. As a result, there was a discrepancy between the real and ordered food prices. Customers are comparing the advantages and disadvantages of this company because of this.

Now, a guy decided to take the required step in reaction to the growing trend of customers comparing the prices of food products listed on Zomato with those in actual eateries. He recently described his experience dining at a renowned Mumbai restaurant using the letter “X.” Internet users who agreed with this man’s conclusions quickly began to spread the word about his message.

Two photos were included in a tweet by user @kothariabhishek on X to illustrate the pricing difference. An invoice from the restaurant “Udupi 2 Mumbai,” which listed the cost of the upma at Rs. 40, was included in one image. The other picture was a screen grab from the Zomato app, which indicated that the upma at the same eatery cost Rs. 120. After that, there was yet more difference. Another meal, Thatte Idli, cost 60 rupees in the restaurant, although it appeared to cost 161 rupees on Zomato. He stated in his tweet,

To provide a more complete comparison, he also included the cost of a full meal, which consists of Thatte Idli, Medu Vada, Onion Uthappam, Upma, and Tea. Even though he only paid Rs. 320 for his meal at the restaurant, his calculations indicated that he would have to pay Rs. 740 (not counting the tea) to get the identical meals from Zomato. He composed,

Had I ordered from . @zomato, I would have to pay Rs740 (without the tea cost)

Zomato quickly provided their explanation for this disparity after the post received a lot of attention on the Internet. Zomato responded to the tweet described above by writing,

The message received a wide range of reactions from the public and quickly went viral. Numerous patrons expressed dissatisfaction about what appeared to be restaurant operators’ manipulation of delivery service costs.

However, several users explained the pricing variations.

Zomato is entirely true in what they claimed, but that doesn’t absolve them of responsibility for this. Zomato and other meal delivery businesses should enact strict legislation addressing this exacerbation of prices. for them to successfully address these issues that stem from the restaurant’s end.
