According to an official, a Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had unveiled at a fort in the Sindhudurg region of Maharashtra collapsed on Monday.
The opposition parties have blamed the state government for not paying enough attention to the quality of work after the tragedy. According to the official, around 1:00 PM, a 35-foot monument of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot Fort in Malvan fell.
Although experts will determine the precise cause of the collapse, he noted that the district has recently had strong winds and heavy rainfall. He stated that senior police and district administration officials had visited the scene to assess the situation and were assessing the damage.
On December 4 of last year, in honour of Navy Day, PM Modi unveiled the statue. He was there in the fort throughout the festivities as well.
“The state government is responsible for the collapse, as it did not take proper care,” stated Jayant Patil, a former minister and state head of the NCP (SP). The level of job quality received scant attention from the authorities. It was limited to arranging an unveiling ceremony for the statue, inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend. The Maharashtra government only invites new bids, takes commissions, and awards contracts by those terms. Vaibhav Naik, a Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA, also chastised the state administration for the purportedly subpar performance.
The state administration can attempt to avoid accountability. He declared, “Those in charge of the statue’s construction and erection need to be thoroughly investigated.”
Deepak Kesarkar, the minister for Maharashtra, stated, “I don’t have all the details about the incident.” It’s crucial to remember, though, that PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan—who serves as the district guardian minister for Sindhudurg—has declared that a comprehensive investigation will be carried out into the issue.
We’re determined to build a new statue in the same spot. This statue honours Shivaji Maharaj’s inspirational efforts to construct a sea fort and was unveiled by Prime Minister Modi. We’ll take all required action to deal with this issue as soon as possible and efficiently,” he declared.
