She married a 32-year-old man when she was only 12 years old. Her husband abandoned her while she was pregnant after she gave birth to three children. Sapkal had to turn to begging to raise her girls because her own mother and the hamlet where she grew up refused to support her in her plight.

Despite these obstacles, she immediately began working for the welfare of orphans. She has 207 sons-in-law and 36 daughters-in-law as a result of raising over 1,050 orphan children.
